| KAZAKHSTAN TALLIES ECONOMIC RESULTS FOR FIRST HALF OF 2010 |
GDP growth in Kazakhstan in the first half of 2020 reached 8% announced Zhanar Aitzhanova, Minister of Economic Development & Trade, at a government sitting today. According to the Minister, unemployment decreased by 0.9% against the same period last year - reaching 5.8%. The success can be attributed to the government’s programmes, said Minister Aitzhanova. Inflation for the period hit 4.4%, mainly driven by food inflation of 5.6%. Industrial production output grew by 11% against the January to July period in 2009. Processing industries (18.3% up) surpassed the mining sector in terms of growth rates which indicates fundamental changes in the country’s economy. The main driving forces behind the overall industrial production growth were machinery building (67.8% up) and chemicals (67.5% up). Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Industry & New Technology, Albert Rau announced that in the H1 2010 Kazakhstan produced 8,452 tons of uranium and plans to extract another 9,770 tons in the H2. Altogether, Kazakhstan intends to bring the uranium production from 14,000 tons last year to 18,222 tons this year. Bolat Zhamishev, Minister of Finance, announced that in the H1 2010 budget revenues totaled KZT 2 trillion 37 billion. Tax proceeds grew by 19.6% against the same period in 2009. In the period under review, investments into agriculture grew by 40.2%, industrial production grew by 27.7% - and construction by 39.8%.
