Gruelling summers and bitter winters make spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) the best seasons to visit Kazakhstan. April is possibly the most colourful time to visit the country; as the spring rains transform the desert into a myriad of blooming red, orange and yellow flowers. Autumn is equally colourful, when harvest time packs out the markets with fresh fruit and vegetables. Winter is the least practical time to travel as domestic flights are often grounded and many restaurants close.

In July; desert temperatures reach 32°C (90°F) and are around half that at night. In the winter, temperatures drop to -9°C (16°F) during the day and -15°C (5°F) at night. Higher altitudes are almost as harsh, but see more rainfall in April and May. Snow starts to fall in November and the mountain passes fill with snow until April or May.
